Gilbert White's House & The Oates Museum - Helping Us HELPING US
Helping with the House
In an old house of this size there are always more jobs than staff available and we are constantly looking for help. We are grateful for any time you could give us, however limited that may be. Here are a few examples of areas constantly needing volunteers to help:

  • Reception Desk/Shop
  • Tea Parlour
  • General Maintenance/Handyman
  • Events Staffing
  • Flower Arranging
  • Library

    Helping with the Garden
If you are a keen gardener, or just enjoy being in a beautiful place in good company, and have some spare time to give please come along and have a chat with David Standing our Head Gardener. He and his happy band of helpers meet here every Monday and every first Sunday morning in the month to help him with his massive task of maintaining over 20 acres of garden and parkland.

A good time is had by all and Weeders are also always in great demand to help at Museum events.

    Donations
The Museum's main sources of income are admission charges and visitor spending in the shop and tea parlour. These sources help towards running costs but cannot finance restoration work or development projects. Additional funds are always required and if you feel you would like to make a donation we would be hugely grateful.

    Legacies
You could help to ensure the long-term security of the Museum by leaving a legacy. It is easy to arrange and there is no limit to the amount you can bequeath.

For more information please contact us at the Museum.
