Next Thursday you can find out What’s in Store… that is what is in our artefact store.
We are celebrating Heritage Open Days on Thursday 8th, by opening the Museum for Free ALL Day and showing visitors’ items not usually on display.
Staff and volunteers will be on hand to talk about the artefacts from our Frank Oates, Lawrence Oates and Gilbert White Collections!
The Frank Oates collection is full of fascinating items brought back from Frank’s travels in Africa and Central America in the 1870’s. The include tribal weapons and tools, specimens of wildlife and many other curiosity brought back by the explorer.
Our Antarctic Gallery is often a highlight of people’s visits to Selborne, particularly to see personal items from the tragic Terra Nova expedition. And there’s more to see behind the scenes… perhaps the little snow boots worn by the dogs on the expedition will be on display on the 8th?
And of course not forgetting Gilbert White, as well as seeing his home up close why not get closer to the great man by seeing some of his possessions close up? Pretty inspiring!
The house and garden will also be open all day for free with plenty to see and do.
