Inspiring Journeys: December Blog
As Christmas nears we are in full project mode. The Frank Oates Gallery has now closed and has been totally gutted in order to create the new Frank Oates Gallery. The Old Tea Parlour, which had been used for storage for a few months has been cleared and work has started on our introductory room. The Tea Parlour kitchens have been under work for some time and are completely unrecognisable. So a lot of progress has been made!
In other parts of the museum, the café is really taking shape and a lot of planning is going on behind the scenes as to menus etc.
This month we joined in on HLF’s Thanks to you week, and initiative where we thanked national lottery players without whom the project could not happen! We offered for one week free entry to any one with a lottery ticket or scratch card in their hands. We loved meeting everyone who came through our doors to enjoy the museum.
As Christmas approaches we are now looking forward to the year ahead (and what a year it will be!) In January work will start in converting the shop into the library and exhibition space, so our shop and admissions will move to the Little Parlour, just like last January! The fitting from the shop will be going to auction just before Christmas, so we’ve started the January Sales early!
The museum will be closed from Christmas Eve until the 5th January, where we’ll be open Fri-Sun until Half term. So to finish off the year here is a festive perk of us having to move our collection around! Our Gazelle has moved downstairs and is currently bedecked in festive splender enjoying Gilbert’s company!
