It’s February and we are now hot footing to be ready for Spring!

We’ve announced that the official opening of the renovations will be the 12th May. We will celebrate with a family open day with lots of things to see and do. We can’t wait!

The stable yard is coming along; you can now see what’s happening from the garden as the hoarding has come down!
Imagemakers have moved in this month and are busy setting up the interpretation in the new orientation room and Frank Oates Gallery, and they are due to start on the new learning space this week! The Frank Oates Gallery has been transformed and now has the exciting additions of a ox cart and a massive tree all part of the interpretation of Frank’s amazing story!
In the learning space a new carpet has been fitted and all the walls and floors in every room have been painted. So we’re looking pretty snazzy! And it’s nice to see some of collections come out of storage back into place.

I’ve been shown sneak previews of the new video going in Frank’s Gallery’s and heard a demo of the new voices that will be heard in the Old Kitchen to bring it to life.
More announcements the new café will be be called White’s Café-Bar, and we have been designing logos and picking out plates and colours to go in our exciting new catering space!

February also marks the beginning of our spring opening times, we’ve been lucky up to this point to have been closed to the public except at weekends, meaning that during the week our builders and contractors could work behind the scenes. However from half term we are back to being open six days a week! Ah! So far so good, our visitors have been very understanding and have enjoyed a good half term, however we had a slight blip on Thursday & Friday as the nature of the work that needed doing meant the for the safety and comfort of our visitors we needed to close. A great snowdrop weekend though made us feel a little better! And we are looking forward to a great rest of February and March.
One factor that has really helped explain to visitors why the museum is not at it’s best, is this video which plays on loop for visitors as they start their journey.

March is another exciting month as we gear up to the museum parts of the renovation being ready for Easter! Will we make it? You’ll have to find out next month!
