Today’s theme is pretty exciting zoom!
So I’ve zoomed in on some things around the museum that you might not have noticed before….
For example have you ever noticed this bar of 100 year old chocolate!
The second is Gilbert White’s initials… they are everywhere Gilbert certainly made his mark on the house… but you might not know where.
The first G.W. 1755 are engraved on his desk, which sits in the study, the only way to see them unfortunately is by crawling under! Which we do not advise!
The second is on the fruit wall in the garden which read G. W. 1761. The fruit wall is no longer whole and had to reconstructed as residents to the house after Gilbert weren’t as keen and knocked it down.
The Last on our site is in on our Brew House it reads G.W. 1763. Gilbert brew his own beer and soon so will we!
Here’s some more zoomed in pictures from around the Museum…
Have you ever noticed what books are on Gilbert’s shelf in his study? We have the Iliad, Johnson and Smollett.
Always wondered what Gilbert is reading at the little table in the corner of the bedchamber, he’s clearly reading up for his next sermon! And above his head is a sample made by niece Elizabeth White aged 10 years in 1778.
Have you ever noticed that in our Old Kitchen the are a blocked in window and door? A testament to how much the house has changed over the years. Notice how the floor level was much higher! This is the door!
Amongst our copies of the Natural History is this peculiar little German edition. The first ever non-English edition, published shortly after it was published in this country!
