It’s nearly half term and we have got a fabulous week of activities planned! We are starting off with a Penguin Trail between the 10th- 18th February. Can you find the six species of Antarctic Penguin hiding in our gardens? You’ll even learn some interesting Penguin facts along the way! On Tuesday 13th between opening and 2pm we are doing Penguin Crafts! Make your own Penguin to take home with you! Drop in arts and crafts session for all ages. Both these activities are free with admission perfect for families on a budget!
On Monday 12th we are calling all young filmmakers for our Iceberg Adventures Animation Day. Following the success of our animation session creating a short ‘Dear Gilbert’ film of letters from local animals to Gilbert White, We have another fantastic opportunity to create your own animated short story. This time, create your penguin characters and stories of their lives on the ice, inspired by the penguins in our Antarctic Gallery and the photographs and paintings from Captain Oates time in Antarctica on the Terra Nova Expedition. You will also achieve your Arts Award Discover certificate. Suitable for ages 5+ Booking essential as places are limited, the cost of the day is £25, with an accompanying adult.
Lastly on Wednesday 14th February we have another exciting new activity Antarctic Inventors. Design a new mode of transport for use in the Antarctic using Lego and Knex. Inspired by the tractors used by Captain Scott and the amazing machines used today. 10am-12pm & 1pm-3pm. All ages welcome, to wither the morning or afternoon sessions, £6 per child with an accompanying adult.
Half term is also the week that we start our Spring opening hours of Tuesday-Sunday 10:30-16:30, so there’s lots of opportunities to visit the house and see what we’re doing with our renovations and see the snowdrops in the garden!
