Summer’s here and we have an awesome June planned here at Gilbert White & The Oates Collections!

1. Unusual Plants Fair

June is always about getting out into the garden for us, especially with our annual Unusual Plants Fair. This year looks to be a great event with fabulous stall holders and a great series of talks and workshops.

2. Smell the Roses

June is when the roses are out! We have a lovely collection of historical roses in our garden. Make sure you don’t miss them!

3. Father’s Day

Father’s Day 2018 is on the 17th of June. Why not treat Dad or Grandad to a day out at out Unusual Plants Fair?

4. Jazz in June


A golden oldie returns! Jazz in June is back! On Saturday 16th join us for an evening of Jazz in the garden, what could be more perfect?!

5. White’s Café

Our new Café White’s has been behind schedule in opening but we are looking forward to putting the final touches to it this month and opening it very very soon!

6. Learn Quilting the Jane Austen way!

This month is also Alton Regency Week to celebrate we are holding two events on the 22nd June. The being Quilting with Frances Law, English Paper Piecing was a popular technique in the time of Jane Austen, and Frances will show you how to do it!

7. Go on an 18th Century Tour!

Our other regency Week activity is a tour of our 18th Century garden. Gilbert White’s garden has been recreated as close as it can to its 18th century original using 18th century plants and methods. Learn more on this special tour!

8. Have a Picnic!

June is the perfect time to picnic! We have plenty of spaces in our grounds for picnicking, whether you bring your own or buy from our café!

9. Midsummers in the Garden


We just love being out in the garden and luckily on the 22nd The Rude Mechanicals will be entertaining us there with their play Oberon’s Cure a prequel to Shakespeare’s A Midsummer’s Nights Dream.

10. Start the Summer

Of course June is the start of a fantastic summer in Selborne! The house and gardens are a fantastic place to come with family and friends and enjoy the natural world!
