Prof. David Vaughan, Director of science at BAS will take you beneath Antarctica’s vast ice sheets, where there are mountain ranges the size of the Alps, lakes bigger than Windermere, rivers, streams and ancient volcanoes. Prof Vaughan will lead the audience on a journey through the secrets of this mysterious frozen world, and explains why what happens there matters to us all. He has led seven scientific expeditions to explore what lies beneath Antarctica. His personal research interests include glaciology, climate and sea-level rise, the role of ice in the Earth system and the societal implications of climate change and rising sea levels.
