Part of the Antarctic Talk Season 2022
24th February 2022 7pm
On zoom & in person
George Marston was an artist who accompanied Sir Ernest Shackleton on two expeditions to the Antarctic. He lived in the Petersfield area for much of his life and taught at local school, Bedales. During Shackleton’s Nimrod expedition, Marston created the artwork for Aurora Australis, the first book to be produced in the Antarctic. A copy of this book is now in the collection at Gilbert White’s House and Gardens.
In this talk, Elisha Mason (Assistant Curator, Petersfield Museum) will share more about the life and work of Marston and the process of curating an exhibition about him at Petersfield Museum
