We will be joined by Wild Intrigue to host a series of exciting wildlife workshops for young and old on the 2nd and 3rd of April. Wild Intrigue is a company that creates and delivers tailored experiences and workshops to enable young people to encounter the unique inspiration of the natural world. Heather Devey and Cain Scrimgeour will deliver five different workshop throughout the weekend for children and adults.
The first of these will be an introduction to the basics of wildlife photography. Learn about field craft, the use of hides and other equipment. Explore the natural history of Gilbert White’s House grounds with the help of professional wildlife photographer Cain Scrimgeour. This activity is suitable for all abilities and cameras, the workshop is 2 ½ hours long and costs £10 per person. At 5pm on Saturday 2nd Cain will lead an introduction to the basics of timelapse photography. Learn about the essential skills and understanding needed to produce beautiful timelapses. This workshop is also suitable for all abilities. All participants need a camera with an intervalometer or in-built timelapse function, as well as a tripod.
There is also a photography sessions for the kids too; join Cain and Heather in an exciting exploration into the world of wildlife photography. Learn how to track wild animals, camouflage yourself using a hide, and discover the wonders of the natural world. This activity is suitable young people aged 6 – 10. Participants will need to bring their own camera; whether digital or film!
If photography isn’t your thing why not join us for a Dusk Walk with Naturalist Heather Devey to discover the crepuscular sights and sounds of Gilbert White’s House, whilst enjoying some tasty hot chocolate. We will eavesdrop on Bats using detectors and stroll through the grounds as the sun sets to discover the wonders of Nature at dusk. Suitable for all members of family just remember to keep warm!
Other children’s activities include a chance to create your own Nature Booklet to capture our moments of wild intrigue. During our adventure through natural surroundings of Selborne, you can stuff your booklet full of items, thoughts and sketches of the natural wonders we discover, whilst learning intriguing facts about flora & fauna. Children must be accompanied by a parent/ guardian. Please ensure you bring suitable clothing, including comfortable walking shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting a little muddy! This activity is perfect for 5 to 12 year olds!
