Leave Your Legacy to Nature
As an independent charity, Gilbert White’s House and Gardens needs your help to continue to inspire journeys into the natural world for future generations. Please help us to continue Gilbert White’s legacy to nature by leaving us a gift in your will.
Our Values
We aim to be:
- Inclusive – nature is for everyone
- Connected – help people to understand their connection to the natural world
- Collaborative – work closely with those who share our commitment
- Sustainable – resilient and environmentally friendly
- Welcoming – to all our visitors
- Educational – inspiring the next generation with experiences and information
We do this by welcoming over 20,000 visitors a year to our museum, gardens and estate; providing a formal education programme for over 5000 children a year, engaging with over 21,000 a month through our website and social media pages, welcoming over 5,000 people a year to our events and operating as sustainably as possible.
Our Future, With Your Help
As an independent charity we rely on the support of our generous donors and supporters. We know that leaving a legacy in your will is a personal act of generosity and we promise to use your gift where it is most needed and will have the greatest impact.
Our work is urgent and valuable, and we have big ambitions for the future. Your legacy donation will help us in coming years to increase our impact by:
- Refreshing our storytelling through the house and gardens
- Increasing the biodiversity of our estate
- Expanding our learning opportunities inspiring generations new and old
- Strengthening our capacity to achieve our mission of inspiring journeys into the natural world
- Increasing the number of people who will make their own pilgrimages to the home of ecology
- Continuing our ambition of becoming a fully sustainable site
Want to Leave Your Own Legacy to Nature?
There are different ways to leave a legacy to Gilbert White’s House and Gardens in your will.
You can choose to leave us a share of your estate (known as a residuary gift) or a gift of a specific sum of money in your will (known as a pecuniary gift)
Making a will is the safest way of ensuring that your loved ones are provided for, and that your legacy continues how you would like it to. Leaving a gift to a charity can reduce the amount your estate pays in inheritance tax, thus enabling an even greater contribution and difference to your loved ones and chosen charities.
We understand that leaving a legacy is a big step and we want potential donors to have any questions answered. However, we are not able to give specific legal or taxation advice, so we highly recommend that you seek independent legal support when creating your will. To include a gift, you must ensure your will states our full name, address and registered charity number (1159058).
If you’ve already written your will, we suggest filling out a Codicil form to discuss with your accountant, solicitor or financial advisor.
Our Promise To You:
If you are considering leaving us a gift in your will, thank you. Any gift, large or small, can make a huge difference and will ensure you leave your own legacy to nature.
It is a gift that will be remembered, and your name will be added to our list of legacy members who have supported us in this special way.
If you would like to discuss further leaving a Gift to Gilbert White’s House and Gardens in your will, then please contact Sarah Phillips on funding@gilbertwhiteshouse.org.uk or call 01420 513222.
